Book release - "Poems of Love and Hate", a new lyrical book by Teodor Burnar
"I wrote Poems of Love and Hate because I could not conceive of leaving my poems orphaned, and I wanted to give them the home they deserve. I also wrote them because, in a world apparently obsessed only with making money, writing poems is a wonderful thing. Miraculous. Unique...", says the author.
Of the dichotomy in the title, Burnar says it reflects human nature, with its lights and shadows, poetry being an unparalleled means of understanding ourselves and being whole:
"I read somewhere that poetry belongs more to those who need it than to the one who writes it. It's true. When you are in a storm, this book will be a lifeboat. But it can also be a sunbed for an endless summer of the soul. So lessen the hate, but don't deny it - and increase the love, my dears."
Among the notable poems of the new book are: Lone wolf; Take me to Vienna, my love!; Crucified on a keyboard; Dossier for entry to the Writers' Union; Homage to the old times; Where can I report you, my darling?; Poetry on an open heart; Queen's gambit.
This book completes a trilogy of the poet from Bucharest, that began with "Exercises in Free Will" ("Exerciții de liber arbitru", 2020, Debut Prize of the Scrisul Românesc Publishing House) and continued with the volume "I'll Never Be What You Want" ("Nu Voi Fi niciodată ce Vreți", abbreviated NVFNCV, 2022, at the same publishing house).
Teodor Burnar, Chief of Content & Branding at WOLEP, is a man of letters: poet, philosopher, journalist, PhD Summa cum Laude in History from the University of Bucharest (since March 2023) and one of the distinctive voices of the new generation of Romanian poets.
